AIBA Extraordinary Executive Committee meeting held in Morocco

On 9-11 of July 2010 the International Boxing Association Executive Committee met for a three-day Extraordinary EC meeting in Marrakech city of Morocco. The AIBA Executive Vice-president Mr. Gafur Rakhimov also attended the meeting in Marrakech.
   The EC made important decisions for the future of AIBA, namely the host city for the upcoming AIBA Congress changed and Kazakhstan will be the new host for this event, which will have elections for the positions of AIBA President, vice-presidents and all other EC members.
   Along with the change of the host city for the AIBA Congress 2010, the World Elite Boxing Championships will also have a different location as it was due to be held in Busan (Korea).
   AIBA EC also granted the London 2012 continental qualification tournaments to 5 cities on respective continents of the planet. The qualifying event in Asia will be hosted by Kazakhstan, whereas, European by Istanbul, Americas by Brazil, African by Morocco and Oceania by the city of Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia, subject to negotiation of a suitable hosting fee. The Chinese boxing federation’s bid presentation for the only qualifying event for London Olympics, the 2012 AIBA Women’s World Championships was unanimously approved by the EC members.

The upcoming AIBA’s world forum will be in Barbados, where the world women boxers will box for the championships.
