AIBA Executive Committee meeting

On February 17-18, 2008 Pusan (South Korea) hosted AIBA Executive Committee meeting. The meeting was attended by the AIBA leadership, namely President Mr. Ching-Quo Woo, Executive Vice-President Mr. Gafur Rakhimov and members of the Executive Committee. For the first time the meeting was also attended by the representatives of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The opening started with a welcoming speech of City Mayor who expressed his gratitude to the AIBA leadership for the decision to hold the meeting in Pusan.
     The Executive Committee discussed a number of important issues related to the future development of AIBA, new dimensions in its activity and projects. One of such issues was to determine the tasks for the AIBA Professional League led by Mr. Fourgoni (France). The participants also approved host countries for World Women Boxing Championship (China), World Cup in Boxing (Russia) and a new tournament, AIBA President’s Cup, to be held in Taipei in May 2008. There were reports with recommendations and novelties presented by the chairmen of the AIBA Commissions.
     The outcome of the meeting was the signing of the Unity Declaration which calls for mutual cooperation in the process of unification for the sake of amateur boxing.
